Every Wednesday afternoon, nine senior musicians gather at the Elfers Senior Center in New Port Richey for a regular jam session that has been a tradition for over three decades. Participants like Bill Myers, 71, bring their instruments and play country songs that they have enjoyed throughout their lives. The event serves as much about companionship as music, allowing seniors to connect with friends over shared musical interests and familiar songs. Shirley Scaturro, 95, has attended the jam sessions since the beginning thirty years ago and says she loves the friends and people who gather there. While the faces of the musicians change over time as others pass away, the tradition continues with new participants joining the circle every week. Anyone can join the jam sessions at New Port Richey, and visitors sixty and older receive a complimentary lunch when they register with the center.
