Sharp and Mitchell Drafted by NBA Teams Within Five Picks After Playing Together in High School

Two former high school teammates, Emanuel Sharp and Dillon Mitchell, were drafted into the NBA within five picks of each other after taking different paths through college basketball. Sharp was selected by the Sacramento Kings at No. 45 in the second round while Mitchell was chosen by Boston at No. 40 a few minutes earlier. Both players were juniors on Bishop McLaughlin’s successful 2020-21 team that reached the Florida Class 3A final after significant roster changes brought them together under coach Derrick Sharp. While Mitchell transferred through multiple schools including Texas, Cincinnati, and St. John’s before being drafted, Sharp overcame injuries to stay at Houston for five years and reach the national championship game. Their connection extends back to playing AAU together where they developed a strong on-court relationship that would eventually lead them to the NBA draft stage together again.
