Special Needs Students Learn Life Skills at Cypress Creek High School in Florida Program

Krystal Woodley teaches a four-year special needs program at Cypress Creek High School in Wesley Chapel, Florida. She works with six students aged 18 to 22, helping them develop essential life skills for adulthood. Over the past two years, Woodley has successfully taught nonverbal students to communicate using full sentences through innovative classroom methods. One notable achievement occurred when a student independently pressed a push light to request bathroom access and verbally asked for assistance. Woodley created Miss Krystal’s Breakfast Buddies program where students cook breakfast and deliver it to teachers on Fridays. This initiative demonstrates the students’ ability to follow directions, take orders, and participate in community service activities. With 20 years of teaching experience, Woodley plans to establish an organization to support adults with special needs after they graduate from high school. Her dedication focuses on filling skill gaps and helping students master important goals for their future independence.
