The 40-day recreational scalloping season has started in the Tampa Bay area waters and will run until Aug. 18. The daily limit is two gallons of whole bay scallops in the shell or one pint of bay scallop meat per person, and harvesters are only allowed to collect scallops by hand or using a landing or dip net. Participants need a Florida saltwater fishing license and are reminded to wear a life jacket and avoid shallow seagrass beds.
