Teen Passenger Dies in High-Speed Pursuit Crash in Pasco County

A tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning when a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended in a fatal crash along SR-54 in Pasco County. The Florida Highway Patrol observed the driver speeding at 74 mph before refusing to stop and accelerating to 115 mph while fleeing. Troopers successfully performed a PIT maneuver, causing the SUV to rotate onto the shoulder where it struck a utility pole and crashed into a tree. Both occupants were 15-year-old males from New Port Richey who were not wearing seat belts, and investigators found alcoholic beverages in their possession. The passenger died from injuries sustained in the crash while the driver was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Charges against the driver remain pending as the investigation continues following this devastating event.
