Seventeen-year-old Jake Giber from New Port Richey recently flew solo in his Piper Cherokee 140 to EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This achievement represents a lifelong dream that began when he was just two or three years old. His grandfather Herb Giber, who was both a mechanic and pilot, played a significant role in nurturing Jake’s early passion for aviation. Remarkably, Jake earned his private pilot’s license before obtaining his driver’s license and even purchased an airplane before buying a car. On his seventeenth birthday, he achieved another milestone by becoming one of the youngest pilots in America at that time. Since then, he has continued to build flight hours throughout the Southeast region including Miami, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and now Wisconsin. Jake hopes to eventually become a commercial airline pilot and his family eagerly awaits that day. He lives in Hidden Lake Airport where growing up surrounded by experienced pilots has provided him with both easy access to flying and valuable mentors who encourage him to excel.
