Volunteers Clean Up Bay Area Ecosystems in National Cleanup Effort

Volunteers across the Bay Area participated in the ‘Greatest American Cleanup’ campaign, focusing on removing trash, invasive plants, and restoring ecosystems in Pasco County and surrounding areas. Events in Picnic Island Park, Manatee Avenue Causeway, and Pasco County collected over 36,000 pounds of debris, with efforts targeting invasive Brazilian pepper trees threatening native mangroves. Organizations like Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful and Keep Pasco Beautiful led the initiatives, emphasizing habitat restoration and wildlife protection. The campaign aims to remove 25 billion pounds of litter nationwide ahead of Independence Day, with future volunteer opportunities highlighted for continued environmental stewardship.
