Florida Governor Signs 2027 Budget With Record Education Funding Increases Across State Schools

Governor Ron DeSantis signed Florida’s fiscal 2027 budget, highlighting significant investments in the state’s education system. The budget allocates $200 million for veteran teacher raises and increases per-student funding to a record $9,338. Several Tampa Bay area schools received substantial funding, including Pasco County’s Academy at the Farm which will get $14 million for a new middle school and Pasco High School receiving $5.5 million for athletic complex renovations. However, Governor DeSantis vetoed several items including a STEM career pilot program in Pasco and a Bright Futures eligibility project in Hillsborough County. The governor explained his vetoes by distinguishing between necessary security funding for Jewish day schools versus what he considers unnecessary spending on Catholic school security measures. Additional news includes various school district developments across Florida, from stadium purchases to campus closure debates and free speech issues among educators.
