Local Captains Report Strong Tarpon and Snook Activity in Pasco Waters

Local fishing captains report excellent conditions for tarpon, snook, and redfish across Pasco County waters this week. Capt. Josh Fritz notes that tarpon pods have moved offshore to spawn but are expected to return to shallow flats soon, with many fish weighing between 60 and 110 pounds. Capt. Cody Albright highlights successful tarpon catches off the coast and at Anclote Key, while also reporting large snook spawning on beaches. He advises anglers to use live baits and release snook quickly during the closed season. Capt. Matt Cowden finds mixed bags of snook, redfish, and trout along the Pasco Coast, with large trout cruising near beaches and sand potholes. Live sardines are proving to be a top bait for these species. The Rusty Bucket reports redfish schooling on shallow flats and snook staked at Anclote Key, though tarpon have been less cooperative. Tarpon Trading Company shares mixed reports, with some anglers finding success on redfish near the Anclote River using live shrimp. Big gag grouper and cobia catches are also noted, though grouper must be released as they are out of season.
