Volunteers in Port Richey are assisting Mark Lane with clearing a debris-filled vacant lot as he faces potential jail time for failing to comply with court orders. The property, once the site of a burned-down house, is now filled with old furniture and storage bins, causing concerns for neighboring residents. Marie Newman, a neighbor, expressed fear of visiting the property due to the mess, while Vanessa Phillips initially reached out to speak with Lane after noticing the issue. Phillips organized a social media campaign to gather volunteers, who have since hauled approximately 50 trash cans of debris. Lane, who has struggled with homelessness following the fire that destroyed his home, stated he is now 7/8 of the way through the cleanup. He hopes to rebuild a home on the property eventually but is currently focused on meeting the court deadline. Phillips remains committed to helping Lane finish the job, citing the community’s consistent willingness to assist in similar situations.
