A memorial marker has been installed along Interstate 75 near the I-275 interchange to honor Antonio Marazita, a Florida Department of Transportation road ranger who was killed while assisting a stranded motorist. The 32-year-old officer died on July 12 after being struck by a suspected drunk driver whose blood-alcohol level was more than four times the legal limit. His mother Joi Marazita is now advocating for stricter DUI and Move Over laws in Florida, stating that current penalties are too lenient and do not adequately deter dangerous driving behavior. She expressed fear about returning to the highway where her son lost his life and wants harsher consequences for drivers who fail to move over or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles. State data shows 116 Move Over crashes have occurred in Florida this year, with Antonio Marazita’s death being the only fatality recorded in such incidents.
