A unique art sanctuary known as the Warlock House in Pasco County is opening its doors to the public for nighttime guided tours through its collection of fantastical hand-crafted statues. Lewis VanDercar, a Florida sculptor and surrealist painter, created the property which features dozens of hand-built statues including dragons, wizards, gargoyles, and Buddha. The property was originally built in 1973 on an eight-acre Quail Hollow area in Wesley Chapel, surrounded by a dome home that served as a creative haven and host for family Halloween parties until VanDercar’s death in 1988. Now three generations of the VanDercar family are opening the grounds to the public with Statuary Night Tours held at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays through October. The tours charge $10 per person and visitors will experience 26 peacocks, dogs, cats, and illuminated art in a relaxed atmosphere without jump scares or actors. Family members plan to expand offerings to include fire-building, gardening, and retreat offerings in the future.
