Construction is underway on new pedestrian and bicycle bridges along the Suncoast Trail in Pasco County, aiming to make dangerous crossings much safer for trail users. Experienced cyclists like Hernandez and Mullally have shared their stories of serious injuries from vehicle collisions at current unsafe crossing points. The state has invested $20 million in these bridge projects, with two new bridges at State Road 54 and State Road 52 expected to open next year. During the construction period, trailheads on the north side of the highway remain closed, but officials recommend using the Upper Tampa Bay Trail as an alternate access point. Cyclists hope additional bridges will eventually be built at other dangerous locations like Ridge Road to further enhance safety along this popular route.
