Pasco County Commissioners are evaluating a one-year moratorium on new data center projects following significant public concern. During a packed public hearing in New Port Richey, residents expressed strong opposition to data centers, citing potential environmental damage and strain on local water resources during ongoing drought conditions. Commissioner Jack Mariano noted the community’s strong feelings on the matter, while resident Ann Falber emphasized the value of preserving natural land over industrial development. Even David Miltenberger from Stellaris Data Centers supported a temporary pause, advocating for small-scale facilities with lower resource demands. The proposed moratorium would not permanently ban data centers but would allow time for research and policy development to address local concerns. A second public hearing and final vote are scheduled for July 14 in Dade City, following similar actions in Citrus County and upcoming votes in Zephyrhills and Lakeland.
