The Angeline community in Pasco County, Florida has become the first master-planned community in the state to install a robotic beehive system powered by artificial intelligence. This innovative technology, developed by Beewise and called BeeHome, combines robotics, cameras, and sensors to monitor and manage bee colonies more effectively. The system has shown remarkable results with approximately a 70% reduction in colony collapse when bees live inside the high-tech hives. Steve Peck from Beewise explains that bees are crucial for pollinating about 75% of crops and 80% of flowers globally, yet they face alarming collapse rates. Computer science teacher Abby Davis brought her students to observe how AI can solve real-world environmental challenges, providing them with practical insights into technology applications. The community is also encouraging residents to plant pollinator-friendly flowers and create habitats to support bees further. Beewise reports having deployed around 1,500 BeeHomes worldwide, supporting roughly 250,000 hives annually and saving over 292 million bees. This initiative represents a significant step forward in using technology to protect nature’s important pollinators while educating the public about their vital role in our ecosystem.
