Pasco County Kids Learn About Scalloping During Summer Camp Program

A group of children participated in a scalloping mini camp organized by the Pasco County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department. Guided by senior program specialists Chloe Carter and Sydney Henderson, the young explorers paddled kayaks offshore to collect bay scallops during the recreational season. The three-day summer program was designed to be both educational and fun, teaching participants about marine wildlife and environmental facts while enjoying time on the water. Campers were allowed to take home their harvested scallops, which they collected within state limits of two gallons per person daily. Outside of scallop season, the Coastal Explorers program continues to offer kayaking adventures on local rivers and coastal waters throughout Pasco County. The 2026 recreational bay scallop season runs through August 18th in designated state waters along the Gulf Coast.
