Pasco County Leads Nation With Record Solar Streetlights For Storm Safety

A Tampa-based company called Streetleaf is installing solar-powered streetlights across Pasco County to ensure illumination during power outages. CEO Liam Ryan explains that these off-grid lights operate independently of the utility grid, using solar panels and batteries with multi-day backup capacity. The system proved its worth during Hurricane Ian when neighborhood Angeline remained lit for ten days without external power. Residents like Zahra Tayarani express peace of mind knowing their community has reliable lighting during emergencies. Streetleaf currently operates in 21 Florida counties and ten other states, responding to growing demand for resilient infrastructure. Pasadena Ridge in Dade City is installing over one hundred additional lights, bringing Pasco County’s total to more than 5,400 solar streetlights. This achievement sets a new U.S. record for the number of solar-powered streetlights deployed in a single county.
