A 63-year-old retired teacher from New Port Richey, Florida has launched a unique Venetian gondola business along the Pithlachascotee River. After 38 years in education, Donna Kranendonk founded “Gondola Girl” approximately six months ago, offering private romantic excursions for couples. She purchased her gondola from the Old Wooden Boat Company and learned to operate it through trial and error, including initially buying the wrong size trolling motor. The experience includes refreshments, prosecco or wine on shore, romantic Italian music, and photos. Her fiancé, the mayor, assists her with launching and retrieving the gondola. The business is designed as a one-hour private outing and is now starting to gain customers.
