Tampa Bay Brigade Competes Intensely in United Grid League Matches Across Country

The United Grid League, formerly the Florida Grid League since its 2017 founding, combines elements of CrossFit, football, and American Ninja Warrior into a unique competitive sport. Teams like the Tampa Bay Brigade face off against opponents in matches featuring about a dozen athletes performing weightlifting, gymnastics, and functional fitness movements across four specialized quadrants. Each match consists of thirteen races lasting approximately ninety minutes, where strategy regarding athlete assignments and timing can determine victory by mere milliseconds. Unlike CrossFit competitions requiring all-around proficiency, grid teams rely on specialists with specific roles in bodyweight elements, strength lifting, or utility tasks. The league has grown significantly with new franchises joining and matches now receiving extensive production coverage including ESPN broadcasts. While athletes maintain regular day jobs without salaries, teams can secure sponsorships and compete for championships across multiple cities throughout the season.
