Florida Educator Banned After Injecting Extremist Rhetoric Into Math Class

Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas has taken decisive action to permanently ban a Pasco County mathematics teacher from the profession. The educator, Mary Hazel Washburn, was removed after she allegedly told her students that President Trump deserved to be shot. This incident occurred in late October while she was teaching at Land O Lakes High School. Following an administrative review and acknowledgment of her comments by Washburn, the school district recommended termination on October 28. She subsequently resigned on October 29, prompting a report to the state’s professional practices department for further action. The Education Practices Commission will ultimately decide whether to revoke her teaching license after reviewing the case details. School officials emphasized their zero tolerance policy regarding any form of violence advocacy in educational settings.
