Pasco County Expands Flex Education Program for Homeschoolers

Pasco County Schools is significantly expanding its Flex Education program to better serve homeschooling families and those using state-funded vouchers. Initially launched with 34 Advanced Placement courses, the program has seen slow but steady adoption, prompting the school board to approve a broader range of offerings. The expansion now includes career and technical education, Cambridge AICE courses, and various middle and high school classes where space permits. Additionally, elementary students can now access art, computer science, music, and physical education through this initiative. Families utilizing vouchers will pay a fee for these contracted services as permitted by state law, while others attend free of charge. Board members emphasize that this move fosters direct partnership with families to create unique educational settings tailored to individual student needs. This initiative reflects a growing trend among Florida districts aiming to provide flexible learning options and integrate homeschool students into district resources more effectively.
