Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park in Pasco County has been added to the Road Trip Florida initiative, a state-wide celebration marking America 250. The Florida Department of Transportation installed a new historical marker at the park, which is one of many such markers being placed across the state. This marker highlights the park as a serene natural preserve that showcases Florida’s wild side. Located just west of busy U.S. 19 in west Pasco County, the park features mangrove forests, winding waterways, and miles of untouched coastline. Paul Herman from the West Pasco Historical Society described it as an excellent place to escape civilization and connect with nature despite its proximity to a heavily traveled road. Herman noted that the park represents a side of Florida that is becoming increasingly rare in this fast-growing region. The area offers kayaking and other outdoor recreation opportunities while maintaining a remote, wilderness feel. Free guidebooks for Road Trip Florida are available at state rest stops and welcome centers throughout the state.
